Male Circumcision

Congratulations, you’ve just found out you’re having a boy.  Now, along with decorating the nursery and fighting with dad about the right time to buy him his first baseball mitt, you have to decide if circumcision is the right thing to do for your little one.

Opinions differ, and arguments from both sides can be bitter and emotional.  So what are you to do?

Just yesterday the American Academy of Pediatrics issued a policy statement that “The health benefits from male circumcision outweigh the risks.”

According to Dr. Susan Blank, chair of the task force that authored the policy statement and corresponding technical report.”Ultimately, this is a decision that parents will have to make,” “Parents are entitled to medically accurate and non-biased information about circumcision, and they should weigh this medical information in the context of their own religious, ethical and cultural beliefs.

Still not sure what to do?  Talk to your pediatrician, but the decision is yours to make.
